Can charity organizations offer hope to deprived Afghanistan children?

By Meera Takkar

Afghanistan, a strategically pivotal nation, which has been obliterated by bloodcurdling instability since 1979, has had many victims of this instability, principal among which is the Afghan child community. The Soviet war in Afghanistan, beginning in 1979, which continued through the next nine years, was succeeded by ghastly warlordism in Afghanistan, which spilled bloody fanaticism across the Afghan soil.

Dutch Queen Beatrix issues abdication speech, to give up throne on April 30

Dutch Queen Beatrix issues abdication speech, to give up throne on April 30

January 29, 2013
By Marion Dean

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has proclaimed that she is abdicating in favour of her son, Prince Willem-Alexander. The Queen Beatrix abdication address, broadcast on TV, consisted of the Dutch monarch announcing that she would formally stand down on 30 April. Queen Beatrix’s abdication speech contained a confession from the Queen that she had been pondering this moment for numerous years.

In her address, the Dutch Queen remarked that this is the correct time to lay down her crown. Queen Beatrix has been head of the Dutch State since 1980. Her 75th birthday will fall on Thursday.

The Queen Beatrix abdication speech involved the Queen voicing that it is time for the Dutch monarchical throne to be possessed by a new generation. She expressed that her son was prepared to be the Dutch King.

The Netherlands PM, Mark Rutte, reacted to Queen Beatrix’s abdication announcement by offering his tribute to the Queen. Mark Rutte expressed that, subsequent to her coronation, Queen Beatrix has applied herself wholeheartedly for the welfare of the Dutch society.

The 45-year-old Prince Willem-Alexander, who will become the Dutch monarch after his mother officially abdicates on April 30, is a trained pilot and a specialist in water management. He will become the Netherlands’ first King since Willem III, who passed away in 1890. Prince Willem-Alexander is wedded to Maxima Zorreguieta, an ex-investment banker from Argentina. The couple has three young children.

Under Dutch law, the Dutch monarch possesses minimal authority, with the monarchical position deemed to be ceremonial, just like the British monarchical position.

Queen Beatrix is the sixth monarch, hailing from the House of Orange-Nassau, which has governed the country since the early part of the 19th century. Though Queen Beatrix is highly admired by most segments of the Dutch public, her abdication speech was expected. The Queen Beatrix abdication speech is not likely to activate a Dutch constitutional crisis.

Queen Beatrix’s mother, Juliana, abdicated the Dutch throne in 1980 on her 70th birthday and her grandmother, Wilhelmina, resigned in 1948, at the age of 68.
