Barack Obama must be impeached over drone strike issue, demands Code Pink

Barack Obama must be impeached, as per the Code Pink co-founder, Medea Benjamin. The leftist NGO has demanded that Barack Obama be impeached due to his policy of approving drone strikes on American citizens overseas due to their involvement in terrorist activities. Medea Benjamin voiced to WABC Radio on Sunday that she deemed that the US drone strikes were an impeachable felony. The Code Pink co-founder expressed to ‘Aaron Klein Investigative Radio’ that she would widen the ban on US drone strikes to stop the killing of blameless people in foreign countries, against which the US is not at war.

The murders of people, without transparency or accountability, through US drone strikes, must end, voiced Medea Benjamin. The grassroots social justice and peace organisation has urged that President Barack Obama be impeached and taken to the International Criminal Court for committing war crimes via his authorisation of the drone strikes. But this is unlikely to happen and, therefore, a legislative measure widening the ban on US drone strikes was prescribed by the Code Pink co-founder.

Code Pink has been impassionedly arguing against US drone strikes, with Medea Benjamin and her supporters disrupting a confirmation hearing last week for John Brennan, Obama’s nominee for CIA director. Code Pink had previously endorsed Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, with the group’s other founder, Jodie Evans, being a financial bundler for Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.

Barack Obama’s drone strikes agenda became the centre of a political debate in the US, after an internal government memorandum divulged that an ‘informed, high-ranking official’ could ascertain whether to send a drone to murder a US citizen, who is relentlessly planning attacks against the US for al-Qaeda. If the citizen’s arrest is infeasible, the drone strikes against the citizen could be authorized by the high-ranking official, the memo uttered.

Code Pink has interacted with representatives of Hamas and the Taliban for the purpose of solidarity. Its goal is to work to end US-funded wars globally and to redirect US assets into healthcare, education and green jobs.
