Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas) has uttered that the right to secede is a fundamental American principle as news emerges that the residents in over 30 states have launched petitions to secede from the US following the reelection to the White House of Barack Obama. Ron Paul had stated similarly in a 2009 YouTube video that it is very American to converse about secession.
Rachel Mills, the spokeswoman of Ron Paul, has remarked that the Congressman thinks in the same way about secession now as he did in that 2009 YouTube video.
In that video, Ron Paul, known for his libertarianism, had gone back to the founding of the modern US. He mentioned that 13 colonies had seceded from the British and established a new nation. Many advantages would have occurred over the last 230 years if the tenet of secession existed in the US.
The discussion over the right to secede has reemerged in the US after 2009 as a petition for Texas to secede on the White House’s website has obtained over 81,000 signatures, far exceeding the threshold for the Barack Obama administration to react. Similarly, Florida, Georgia and Alabama are other states wanting to secede from the Union, which have gathered over 20,000 signatures.
Texas Governor, Rick Perry, has remarked, via his press secretary, that he doesn’t endorse the Texas secession petition. The Governor had faith in the greatness of the Union, which shouldn’t be altered in any way, as per his press secretary.
Meanwhile, the Ron Paul farewell speech to the Congress last week consisted of a warning from him about a perilous march to fascism in the US. The Ron Paul speech rebuked the incumbent American government as bloated, profligate and corrupt, with a warning that the American people were losing their liberties gradually.
Ron Paul remarked that the US Constitution, established to curb governmental abuse and bigness, has failed as the US today has a spectrum of armed bureaucrats like TSA, CIA, FBI, Fish and Wildlife, FEMA, IRS, etc. Welfarism and central economic planning have weakened the American way of life, cherished by the country’s founders.
